Interesting facts about me

I'm a stay at home mom of 2 boys, ages 13 & 9. I love animals, and do rescue and rehab work. I love the outdoors. I water ski, wake board, ride my horse, etc. My sport of choice is sand drag racing ATV's. I ride a 2005 Yamaha YFZ 450 that is extremely fast. On May 20th, 2007, I pushed the envelope a bit to far. I crashed while racing, and destroyed my L1 vertebra. After 3 days in ICU, they fused 3 vertebras, put in 2, 3" rods and 4 large screws. I wore a full torso brace for 3 months, but was back on my ATV after only a month. Call me crazy, go ahead, but if I didn't, I would have fear. I'm fine now. No problems, and no pain.

I have followed Tony for some time. While I'm a huge "Tony Stewart-NASCAR star" fan, I'm a bigger fan of Tony Stewart the human being. What he does for people, and animals is amazing. He has a heart of gold (not to mention smokin hot looks too). I wish this world had more people like him.

I think you're really brave to get back into drag racing. I admire you.

Hi, I did get fused on L5 and S1. I have a slight issue with movement, but nothing to freak out about. I get pain every once in a while, but it's probably because I don't exercise at all. Other than that I'm o.k. I'm glad yours isn't giving you problems, because the last thing you'd want to do is be hooked on those pain killers. They are hard to get off of if you take them every day. Anyways good hearing from you. Take care of yourself. Claire

    Hi Claire

You are so right about those pain killers. I did become addicted to them, but not now. Months ago, I needed to refill my perscription again, and I just didn't. I started using my exercises to make the pain go away. I did go through a bad depression after stopping them, side effect I guess.
To me, it seemed if the docs were trying to make me freak out about this. They told me OVER and OVER that I wasn't going to this anymore, or that anymore, and "you are going to need to change your life in a big way" . The biggest mistake they made was telling me that I couldn't, or can't do something, because that was teh FIRST thing that I was going to do. It became a challenge for me to make sure that I could still do the things that I live for, cause they told me not to. People call me crazy for drag racing again, but I personally think that if I gave that up, I would shrivel up and blow away in the breeze. LOL

Hi Mandi, my name is Claire. I just wanted to tell you that I had the same surgery 9 years ago, except it was at L5 and S1. The screws the rods and plates are still in me. I had to wear the same torso brace too. The way you got hurt was way more interesting then the way I did. I slipped and fell at my job. Anyways just wanted to stop by and say hello. Claire

Hi Claire, nice to meet you. Ouch, L5 and S1. Did they fuse them?? My T12, L1, and L2 are fused together. How is your pain and movement? I'm asking because all the doctors warned me of not having good movement anymore, and probably would be on pain killers forever, YEAH RIGHT!!! I have days and days that I don't have any issues, heck sometimes I forget it's there. How is yours??

Places to visit before you turn 100

Oh gosh, this one takes some thought. . . . . . . . . . . . .

I would love to visit the Oregon coast. They have a dune fest every year. I want to take my ATV there and whip some Oregon butt!!!

The one place that I MUST visit is Tony's beloved Eldora Speedway. The history, the atmosphere, it's beautiful. One year, I'm gonna make it to the Prelude to the Dream.
